About

Canada Dry dates back to 1904 when it was first made by a Canadian chemist/pharmacist named John McLaughlin. Many people think the “dry” portion of the soda’s name means that the product does not contain alcohol. However, according to Snopes.com, “dry” actually means that it is not sweet. Note that ginger ales were sweet in the early 1900’s so adding “dry” to the product name helped differentiate¬†it from the others. Today, in addition to making ginger ale, the manufacturer (Dr Pepper Snapple) also produces club¬†soda, tonic water, and sparkling seltzer water.
