Pepsi was developed in 1893 as “Brad’s Drink” with the name based on the creator’s name, Caleb Bradham. Roughly five years later it was re-branded as Pepsi-Cola. Pepsi merged with the snack company Frito-Lay in 1965 and later acquired Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, 7 Up, and KFC in the 1970’s and 1980’s. The restaurants were eventually spun off. Pepsico later acquired Tropicana and Dole in the late 1990’s and later it merged with Quaker Oats in 2001.
